Queensland Country is celebrating five consecutive years of being recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE).

Queensland Country CEO, Aileen Cull, said that to be awarded this citation from Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), organisations must meet strict criteria regarding leadership, learning and development, gender remuneration gaps, flexible working and other initiatives.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day today, it’s nice to pause and reflect on this achievement not only for our organisation but for the community.

“This award recognises the work we do to provide tangible career development opportunities and our commitment to equality in the workplace for both males and females.

“We employ 374 people right across Queensland with 302 of these being female, many of whom hold Management positions and contribute to the strategic direction of our organisation.

“I’m proud of the fact that our head office is based in regional Queensland and we can provide many of these career opportunities outside of large city centres which for many people is a major drawcard for their lifestyle and families.

WGEA Director Libby Lyons said that while recent data shows progress towards gender equality there is still work to be done.

“WGEA data shows there is continuing momentum and progress towards gender equality in Australian workplaces. However, it also highlights the accountability gap between having a policy or strategy in place and being held accountable for delivering results.

“I congratulate all the 2017-18 citation holders for their commitment to and recognition of the many benefits improved gender equality can bring to their business. These employers are setting the benchmark and the pace for other Australian workplaces to follow.”

THE EOCGE citation commenced in 2014 in line with Workplace Gender Equality Act of 2012 and is designed to encourage, recognise and promote active commitment to achieving gender equality in Australian workplaces.

Queensland Country is only one of 120 organisations across Australia to be awarded the prestigious citation by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).
