Who we are

Put simply, we are a bank that has a distinct purpose of helping all Queenslanders live better lives through better financial wellbeing.

We’ve been around since 1971, where our story began in true country spirit – in Mount Isa, Queensland. At the time we were known as the Isa Mine Employee’s Credit Union Limited. We grew out of the local Mount Isa community due to their need for basic banking and small lending options for employees of Mount Isa Mines (MIM) Limited and their related companies within the MIM umbrella. This included MIM Holdings, Carpentaria Exploration Company, Copper Refineries, Collinsville Coal Company and Townsville Transport Services (TTS).

By the late 1970’s the word about our member-owned model had spread and the credit union was approached by Pioneer Sugar in North Queensland, to provide the same services for their employees. Eventually Membership eligibility, product offering, and branch locations expanded, and we became known as Queensland Country Credit Union.

Fast forward to the 21st century and the organisation that grew from such humble beginnings now provides financial services to over 100,000 Members all over Queensland and beyond. We’ve transformed from a credit union to a member-owned bank but kept the best bits of who we are. Our renewed focus is on growing our business and allowing even more Members to experience the Queensland Country difference.

While our name has changed, providing quality banking and insurance products to communities throughout Queensland remains at the core of what we do. As a member-owned organisation, returning profits to our Members and their communities is important to us. We are devoted to ensuring that we are constantly doing more for our Members by providing banking products and services that matter.

Where are we?

While our roots are in regional Queensland, we are equipped to provide a full range of banking and insurance options to all Queenslanders - regardless of where you live. We have an extensive network of full-service branches in major Queensland centres including Brisbane, Cairns, Ipswich, Mackay and Townsville. Plus, our full range of digital banking options and a Queensland based contact centre allows us to offer Queenslanders a genuine banking alternative regardless of where you live.

For us, “country” is a state of mind rather than just our geography. It’s about being genuine in everything we do and being honest and up-front with Members. We have and will continue to develop quality relationships with our Members based on our commitment to these strongly held values.

The change to become a member-owned bank is the latest evolution of our brand that has served the Queensland community for almost 50 years. We’re becoming a bank to support our growth goals - which are significant. Our vision is to become the bank for all Queenslanders. It’s an ambitious goal, but one we’re committed to achieving.
